MUSEO IRPINO
COMPLESSO MONUMENTALE CARCERE BORBONICO

A YEAR OF EXHIBITIONS AT THE MUSEO IRPINO
March 4, 2023 – March 9, 2024

In order to bring an increasingly wide and diverse audience closer to art and culture, the Province of Avellino, along with the Technical-Scientific Coordination of the Museo Irpino and the “S. e G. Capone” Library, proposes a rich exhibition programme in collaboration with both local and non-local artists, associations and art galleries.

Over the course of a year, the Museo Irpino will host ten exhibitions within the dynamic setting of Avellino’s Carcere Borbonico.

The exhibition programme starts on March 4th with “Panic Rooms”, a solo exhibit by the artist Gianluca Capozzi from Avellino, curated by Adriana Rispoli and under the artistic direction of Ernesto Esposito. The exhibition, featuring a series of unpublished paintings depicting the interiors of a room, will be open until March 25th.

The exhibition “Il tempo interiore. Archivi dell’io (Adriano Eccel 1985-2012)” will be next in line to be showcased. It features the main works of Adriano Eccel, a photographer from Trentino who died prematurely in 2012. The exhibition is curated by the Adriano Eccel Association (AEcceL) and the Montoro/Contemporanea Association and will be on display from March 31st to April 29th.

From May 6th to May 27th, the museum will host the exhibition “La contemporaneità tra storia e innovazione” by the well-known multifaceted artist Edoardo Iaccheo, curated by Stefania Marotta. The exhibition brings together paintings, ceramics and drawings on paper from Amalfi.

The journey continues with the exhibition “Manifestando. La Mostra delle Mostre”, curated by Massimo Sgroi and the Kaos48 Cultural Association. It consists of about fifty “manifestos” and “magazines”, celebrating artists who frequented the gallery in Piazza dei Martiri in Naples between the 1970s and 1990s. The artists featured include Andy Warhol, Joseph Beuys, Jannis Kounellis, Robert Mapplethorpe, Keith Haring and Cy Twombly. The exhibition, belonging to the broad-ranging project on contemporary art and culture, New York Naples One Way Only, will be open from June 3rd to June 24th.

From July 1st to July 29th, the audience can experience a collective exhibition curated by Andris Brinkmanis, entitled “Sovraesposti/Over exposed”. The exhibition showcases the works of artists known to the Italian cultural scene and beyond. The striking building of the Carcere Borbonico serves as the central element around which the entire exhibition revolves. The exhibition explores architecture, contemplates the concept of time, and rediscovers modernity up to its deconstruction.

The collective exhibition “Fantasmagorie”, curated by the ARTEUROPA Association, will run from August 4th to August 26th. Featuring works by 40 internationally renowned artists, this exhibition offers a broad overview of contemporary art with a profound emotional impact.

From September 2nd to September 30th, the rooms of the Museo Irpino will host the exhibition “Escape from Figure, curated by Angelo Lorenzo Crespi in collaboration with the “Ferrero Gallery of Contemporary Art” in Ivrea. The exhibition represents a dialogue between the established artist Alfredo Rapetti Mogol and the emerging artist Cristina Nasti, exploring the theme of abstraction.

On October 7th, visitors will be welcome to admire the exhibition “Caleidoscopio-China, curated by Andrea B. Del Guercio and Gerardo Fiore, in collaboration with the Montoro/Contemporanea Association. The exhibition, open until November 18th, proposes a dialogue between historical Chinese artists working in various languages of contemporary avant-gardes, and some emerging young artists from the Beijing area.

From November 25th, 2023 to January 5th, 2024, the exhibition “Amori di cristallo” will take the spotlight. This collective exhibition features a group of artists united in a collective outcry against gender-based violence affecting women. The language of art expresses the unique styles of each author, aiming to awaken conscience, stimulate reflection, and foster dialogue. Curated by Antonio Bergamino, in collaboration with Casa sulla Roccia – Outreach Centre, Demetra Cooperative, and the Antonella Russo Shelter for abused women.

From January 13th to March 9th 2024, the exhibition “Silver & Other Wolves”, curated by Treviso Comic Book Festival and COMICON, will conclude the yearly exhibition programme at the Museo Irpino. It will feature the beloved character Lupo Alberto, created by the comic book artist Silver. You can admire the captivating works of talented artists such as Lorenzo La Neve, Matilde Simoni, Francesco Guarnaccia, Roberto D’Agnano, Dottor Pira, Federico Gaddi, Nova, Fran, Mattia Secci, Spugna, Valeria Appendino, Lorenzo Mò, Lonnie Bao, Gianluca Maruotti and, of course, Silver himself!
