A YEAR OF EXHIBITIONS AT THE MUSEO IRPINO

March 4, 2023 – March 9, 2024
MUSEO IRPINO
COMPLESSO MONUMENTALE CARCERE BORBONICO
On January, an exhibition by MILO MANARA

The Year of Exhibitions at the Museo Irpino event is about to conclude, and for the final exhibition, in collaboration with COMICON, there will be a change in the scheduled program. The exhibition titled Silver e i Nuovi Lupi, initially set to start on January 13th, 2024, will be replaced with the extraordinary display Milo Manara – Così fan tutte. Le Metamorfosi d’amore. Sketches of the scenes and costumes of Mozart’s opera will be showcased from January 13 to March 9, 2024.

Following the opening of the 56th opera season at the Pergolesi Theatre in Jesi, where a shortened version was staged for the first time, artist Milo Manara’s exhibition, dedicated to the two-act opera Così fan tutte by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, will be premiered in its full version in Avellino. The opera was first performed on January 26th, 1790, in Vienna.

The work of the Veronese artist was commissioned by an international consortium of theatres collaborating on the production of the opera, directed by Stefano Vizioli: Pergolesi Spontini Foundation in Jesi, Verdi Theatre Foundation in Pisa, Pavarotti-Freni Municipal Theatre Foundation in Modena, Social Theatre in Rovigo, and Opéra-Théâtre de l’Eurométropole de Metz.

The exhibition presents a unique and unpublished collection of drawings of costumes and scenes from one of the most famous operas in the international opera scene. These drawings have been reinterpreted from the perspective of a great comic book artist, Milo Manara. He designed scenes and costumes, creating an ancient and two-dimensional set design consisting of backdrops, retractable doors and other theatrical contraptions. The drawings featured in the exhibition evoke the pictorial trends of the 18th century, with shades of ivory, pink and azure, inviting viewers into the enchanted world of Mozart’s opera and giving them the feeling of interacting with the opera itself. Nine illustrations created by Manara himself, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s first concert in Italy (on December 25th, 1769), will also be on display. These powerful images will highlight three operas that have marked the history of music: Le nozze di Figaro (K 492), Don Giovanni (K 527), and Così fan tutte (K 588).

Opening on Saturday, January 13th at 5 pm
The exhibition will be open from Tuesday to Saturday, from 9 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm.
