Pasolini the origin and the sacred
Theater workshop and more

Irpino Museum

The project
The idea of creating a permanent area at the museum dedicated to Pierpaolo Pasolini was born from the collaboration of Irpinia directors and actors and the Irpino Museum, intended as a place for experimentation, theater research and more.
The space reserved for the poet wants to be “a meeting place for the younger generations”, which through a reinterpretation of Pasolini’s plays, is aimed at involving young people in a work of study and critical appropriation that leads to an original creation, through laboratory writing and interpretation.

Objectives
A reinterpretation of Pasolini’s classic works: Medea, Edipo, Pilade, Il Vantone which will be the object of reading, analysis and debate with particular interest for the Antigone which will be the subject of an original staging that will involve all the participants in the course with professional actors.
2022 is the year in which the centenary of the birth of Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922-1975) occurs, an anniversary that obtained the Italian candidacy as part of the UNESCO Anniversaries 2022-2023 program. Intellectual and eclectic artist, one of the most debated and emblematic figures of his time, Pasolini has spread his activity between cinema, literature, public debate and political commitment and, thanks to his ability to read and anticipate the transformations of society, his work is very topical.
Pasolini’s theater and cinema are characterized by the relationship with Greek myths, Latin literature, the classics of the Italian and European tradition. Since the second half of the 1960s, Pasolini grasps the problem of the recipient: the “people” are replaced by the “mass”, and this also puts traditional theater in crisis. Pasolini theorizes a “theater of speech” that renounces the entire naturalistic apparatus (sets, costumes, music, stage action) to focus on logos. The reinterpretation of Pasolini’s theatrical works aims to involve young people in a work of study and critical appropriation that leads to an original creation, through theatrical writing and interpretation workshops.
